Introduction to Gmail

Gmail is a free advertising supported email service provided by Google. Gmail was initially started in first April 2004 and became available to public in 7th February 2007. Individual Gmail messages including attachments can be upto 25 megabytes. Gmail is available in 57 languages, Gmail users till June 2012 were 425 millions.

As of September 2013 the Gmail service provides 15 GB free space to every account for Gmail, Google Drive and Google+Photos services.

Spam Filter

Gmail has a spam filtering service which filters the spam mails among all incoming mails by their mail servers. When any user marks an email as spam, this helps the Gmail to identify similar future messages for all Gmail users.

Gmail Mobile

Gmail mobile is a new service provided by Gmail in December 16, 2005 to use Gmail service on both Cell Phones and Smart Phones. This service is available in 40 different languages.

Google+

Google+ is  the Google social networking application launched in 28 June 2011. Google+ Hangouts allows multiple people videoconferencing replacing Gmail Video Chat.

Google Video and Voice Chat

In August 2011 Google released a plugin which provides integrated telephone service with Gmail Chat. This service allows people to make free calls from their Gmail accounts to USA and Canada and call other countries on a fee basis.

Gmail Search

This is Gmail integrated search service which searches a user's Gmail account.It has the functionality to include the auto complete predections from user Email contents.

Gmail has extra security feature as Recovery Mail and  Mobile Phone Number verification. If someone forgets his password then the password will be send to the Recovery Mail. This service can also be used when someone's account is hacked.
